Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Smriti mobile app and related services ("Service"), operated by NeoArka. By using Smriti, you agree to these Terms.

Using Smriti

Smriti is a personal reading app for tracking books, reading PDF and EPUB documents, capturing reading notes, and reflecting on what you read. You may use guest mode or create an account with email or Google Sign-In. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use Smriti. You agree to use the Service lawfully and not misuse it.

Accounts

• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You must provide accurate account information when signing up.
• You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.

Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you create in Smriti, including notes, contexts, journal entries, and companion messages. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display your content solely to operate and improve the Service.

Documents You Open

Smriti lets you open PDF and EPUB files that you choose from your device. These files stay on your device and are not uploaded to us. You are responsible for making sure you have the right to use any document you open in Smriti. Smriti does not provide, sell, or distribute books or documents.

AI Companion

Smriti offers an optional AI reading companion and AI-suggested contexts. AI responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or occasionally inappropriate. They are provided for reflection and learning support only and should not be treated as professional (for example, medical, legal, or financial) advice. Suggested contexts are only saved if you choose to keep them.

You agree not to use the companion to generate content that is illegal, harmful, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes the rights of others. If the companion produces a response that is offensive or harmful, please report it to support@neoarka.com so we can review it and improve our safeguards.

Subscriptions and Billing

Smriti offers optional paid subscription plans that unlock additional features. Subscriptions are purchased, billed, and managed through Google Play, and are subject to Google Play's billing terms in addition to these Terms.

• The price, billing period, and features of each plan are shown before you confirm a purchase.
• Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before renewal.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Google Play account settings.
• Refunds are handled according to Google Play's refund policies, not directly by us.
• We may change subscription pricing or features going forward; where required by law, we will give advance notice of material changes.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful, harmful, or abusive purposes.
• Attempt to access another user's data without authorization.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
• Reverse engineer or misuse the Service except as permitted by law.
• Circumvent plan limits or usage quotas, or access the Service through automated means.

Third-Party Services

Smriti relies on third-party services such as hosting providers, database services, email delivery, Google Sign-In, book metadata providers (Open Library and Google Books), AI providers, and Google Play Billing. Book details and covers are supplied by those providers and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Your use of those features may be subject to their respective terms and policies.

Availability and Changes

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms; we will revise the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to let you know. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

Termination

You may stop using Smriti at any time and delete your account and data from within the app (see Delete Your Data). Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription — cancel it in Google Play first. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service or other users.

Disclaimer

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Smriti and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us, if any, in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Smriti and its operators from any claims, losses, or damages, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the country where you live.
